APPLE is reportedly working on a follow-up to its hugely popular iPhone SE – and it could hit shelves this year.

According to reports, the iPhone SE Plus will be larger than previous SE models while retaining the series’ wallet-friendly price tag.

The news comes from trusted leaker Jon Prosser, who regularly shares details on upcoming Apple products long before they launch.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, the internet star shared details on the new SE, as well as the iPhone 13 series tipped for release in September.

Prosser said that inside sources at Apple had informed him that the company planned to release an iPhone 13 Mini this year.

This may come as a surprise to some, as 2020’s iPhone 12 Mini – which has a display that measures just 5.4″ diagonally – has not sold all that well.

According to a recent report from JP Morgan, Apple is planning to halt production of the iPhone 12 Mini due to sluggish sales.

Fans have reportedly shunned the device in favour of the similarly sized but much cheaper iPhone SE that launched a few months earlier.

“Does this mean they won’t be making an iPhone 13 Mini?” Prosser asked in the video. “Actually, Apple is still committed to a follow-up.”

He added that the company was considering making fewer units of the upcoming phone in order to ensure that supply doesn’t overshoot demand.

“It will also help that there isn’t an iPhone SE planned for this year. At least, the current sized SE,” Prosser said.

“Any update to that will actually be an iPhone SE Plus, making room for a 13 Mini.”

Most of Apple’s iPhone models are large and very expensive, with top models coming in at close to £1,500/$1,500.

But there’s a downsized (and priced-down) model called the iPhone SE too.

Japanese blog MacOtakara – which regularly leaks Apple news – recently reported that a new model is on the way this year.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier

There aren’t any details about what sort of specs the phone would feature.

But a small design and low price are hallmarks of the iPhone SE brand.

Apple’s first iPhone SE came out in 2016, and was an immediate hit.

The budget-friendly mobile had a dinky 4-inch screen and was loved for it – but Apple discontinued the product three years ago.

Then last year, Apple re-launched the iPhone SE with a brand new look and upgraded hardware.

It borrows the iPhone 8’s familiar and curvaceous design, as well as innards from more modern mobiles.

And it was fitted with the same A13 Bionic chip that powered the high-end iPhone 11 Pro.

Better still, it costs just £399 to buy outright.

A 2021 version of the iPhone SE could make similar improvements, landing with the newer A14 processor.

However, a new iPhone SE isn’t an absolute given.
