Serco said its takeover of Whitney, Bradley & Brown could open the door to the Pentagon
Outsourcer Serco is eyeing work for the US Space Force after snapping up an American defence contractor for £212million.
The British company, which is among the contractors behind NHS Test and Trace, said its takeover of Whitney, Bradley & Brown (WBB) could open the door to the Pentagon.
Serco is a major defence contractor and Rupert Soames, chief executive, said: ‘Growing the scale, reach and capability of Serco in the largest defence market in the world is one of our objectives, and the acquisition significantly advances that.’
Serco employs 55,000 staff, with 25,000 in the UK, and expects annual revenues of £3.9billion for 2020.
WBB specialises in advanced data analytics, AI and machine learning, and precision navigation and timing. Many of its staff are former senior US military officers.
Serco hopes to win more work in space, where the Pentagon faces ‘serious and growing challenges’ over weapons designed by China and Russia to cripple US space capabilities, which are heavily relied upon by its forces.
Serco stock rose 4.6 per cent, or 5.5p, to 125.2p.
