SHOPPERS will be able to “click and collect” cash from stores — or have money delivered to their home with food.

It is a bid to help the one in six people who rely on cash, amid fears more ATMs will soon disappear.

“Cash in Shop” differs from existing “cashback” — where money is offered when shoppers buy something.

The new service allows customers to choose when and where they collect money, with no need to buy anything.

They can see which shops have cash and pre-order it to collect in minutes, for free.

The app will also let customers have money delivered with their groceries or takeaways.

The concept has already been successfully trialled in Switzerland — and will be the first of its kind in the UK.

Run by finance firm Sonect, it launches in Burslem, Staffordshire, next month.

Chains such as One Stop, Spar and Bargain Booze are on board, plus small local stores — and also some takeaways.

It will be the takeaways or stores which do deliveries which will drop off cash at the door.

Sonect’s UK boss Ron Delnevo said: “It is the first stage of a national rollout which will see this new and innovative way of accessing cash made available to everyone.”

The service comes as banks dither over committing to the Link and Post Office cash point networks.
