WINTER is coming – and with it, plummeting temperatures and soaring energy bills.

Covid-19 lockdowns, and most of us spending more time indoors, will make the coming months only more expensive.

But the Energy Saving Trust reckons you can save up to £581 on your annual bill just by adjusting habits.

So I asked the good people at household bills comparison site utilitybidder.co.uk for some of their top tips . . . 

Rad fab: Bleeding radiators is a quick job that you can do yourself, does not cost a penny and makes the rads more efficient — so saving you money.

Curtain call: Closing your drapes and tucking them behind radiators are great ways to stop heating escaping through windows and walls.

Timing is money: The idea that it is cheaper to leave heating on low all day is widely debated — but is a myth. In the long run, having your heating on only when you need it is best. Make sure you use a timer, too.

Magic rugs: Consider buying an extra one or two. Not only will this give rooms an extra design pop, they add insulation and keep it warm, so saving more cash.

Thermostat tricks: The most effective way to control your heating is to use a room thermostat, usually best set at between 18C and 21C.
