iPhone users have swarmed social media this week amid concerns their smartphones are turning off in the middle of the night.

Users say they’ve been prompted to enter their PINs first thing in the morning, which suggests a reboot has happened on its own accord.

Meanwhile, others have noticed a gap of several hours in their iPhone’s iOS battery health graph.

Taking to Reddit, several frustrated users have complained that the issue has even caused their alarms not to go off.

Here’s what to do if your device is affected by the issue.

The issue was first flagged by 9to5Mac, after a reporter noticed that Face ID wouldn’t work without entering the passcode first.

Taking to Reddit, 9to5Mac found that they weren’t alone, with several reports of similar shutdowns.

‘This morning I happened to wake up at like 5AM on my own, late for work, and noticed the alarm screen was up with the snooze option on it, but my phone didn’t wake me up,’ one Redditer posted.

‘I assumed that maybe I slept through my alarm, which is still odd, because it’s never happened.

‘I went to work (from home), and my son normally gets up at 7:30 AM for work, and at about 7:50 I noticed I hadn’t seen him milling around the house, so I knocked on his door, and there he was sleeping, and he said “I didn’t even hear my alarm”.

‘I told him what happened to me and he held up his phone and it had the alarm screen on it like mine did.’

One user replied: ‘Came directly to this sub to see if it was just me. My alarms also did not go off this morning.’

Meanwhile, another added: ‘Dude neither did mine. Wtf.’

An easy way to check whether or not your iPhone has turned off in the night is by opening the Settings app, and navigating to Battery.

There, you can see your iOS battery health graph, which shows the battery status over the past 24 hours.

If there’s a gap, it suggests your iPhone was turned off overnight.

‘Check your battery section. Does it show the phone turned off for a few hours? My alarm went off this morning, but it required my code to unlock and shows it turned off around 1am. Bunch of people ran into this yesterday,’ a Redditor said.

The problem appears to impacting a range of models, and not just the new iPhone 15 range.

This suggests that it may be an issue with the iOS 17 software, rather than the hardware.

Unfortunately, Apple has not commented on the issue yet, so if you’re affected, you’ll just have to hang in there until a fix is issued.

MailOnline has contacted Apple for comment.
