Tesco recalls spicy chorizo slices over fears they could be contaminated with listeria

TESCO has recalled packs of spicy chorizo slices over fears they could be contaminated with listeria.

The supermarket is urging customers not to eat the meat as a precaution.

Packs of 16 spicy chorizo slices have been recalled from Tesco

In a recall notice posted on the Tesco website, the supermarket says “we’ve been made aware that it may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes”.

The recall applies to its 60g packs of 16 spicy chorizo slices with a best before date of December 19, 2020.

Tesco has also removed this product – which was priced at £1 – from its website.

Customers who’ve purchased the spicy chorizo slices are being urged to return it to their nearest Tesco for a full refund. You won’t need a receipt to get your money back.

PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

Other pack sizes and best before dates are unaffected by the recall.

Listeria can cause listeriosis, which in extreme cases can cause life-threatening illnesses including sepsis, meningitis and encephalitis.

It causes flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

Listeria infection can go unnoticed in healthy people but it is a particular threat to the elderly, pregnant women and babies.

On its recall notice, Tesco said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“If you would like further details, please contact Tesco Customer Services.”

Other recalls to watch out for include eggs from Aldi, Asda and Sainsbury’s that have been pulled from shelves over fears they could contain salmonella.

Elsewhere, Aptamil baby cereal on sale at Asda, Boots and Tesco has been recalled over fears it contains pieces of plastic.

Guinness has also recalled cans of its new non-alcoholic drink over fears they are unsafe to consume.
