And again, this speech is making clear that this is indeed a different president with a different foreign policy worldview. Joe Biden in his speech has reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to NATO and warned about Russia.
Biden on Russia: “Putin seeks to weaken the European project and our NATO alliance. He wants to undermine the transatlantic unity and our resolve.”
“It’s so much easier for the Kremlin to bully & intimidate individual states.”
The tonal shift in Biden’s address here and that of Donald Trump when he was president is very apparent.
POTUS reiterates full commitment to NATO and Article 5, and says “we are at an inflection point” between those who argue that autocracy is best way forward, “and those that understand that democracy is essential” to meeting challenges. “I believe …that democracy will prevail.”
Biden to @MunSecConf: “America is back.
“The transatlantic alliance is back.
“Let me erase any lingering doubt: the United States will work closely with our European partners.”
Affirms commitment to NATO’s Article Five: “An attack on one is an attack on all.”
