AN APPLE insider has revealed his top three predictions for what the NEW iPhone will look like.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, gadget expert Dan Ives told how the this year’s iPhone 14 would be getting a huge camera upgrade.

Apple hasn’t formally confirmed the iPhone 14 yet – and won’t for months.

But we’re expecting the gadget to launch in September this year.

Apple’s 2021 iPhone 13 offered just a handful of upgrades versus the previous year.

So Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives thinks we can expect some big changes for 2022.

Lasers!

According to Dan, we’ll see “LiDAR across the entire iPhone 14 line-up”.

LiDAR uses lasers to let your iPhone measure depth.

It measures how long light takes to reflect back from a surface, and is used to map depth across a scene.

For photography, you get perks like faster autofocus in low-light, and better Night Mode portrait shots.

But it also gives augmented reality apps – think Snapchat filters or Pokemon Go, but better – a major boost.

You’ll get instant room-scanning, making it possible to more precisely and realistically place detailed AR objects.

Until now (and since the iPhone 12 Pro), it’s been reserved strictly for the iPhone Pro devices – and the iPad Pro.

But Dan Ives thinks all iPhone 14 models (including the cheapest unit) will get the upgrade.

Giant camera

Dan’s second prediction for the iPhone 14 concerns photography.

He told The Sun that we’d see the “largest camera sensor ever fitted on an iPhone”.

The sensor is the part of the camera that collects light.

And more light means the camera can capture greater detail, ultimately allowing for a better photo.

Apple could decide to increase the size of the camera sensors on the iPhone 14.

This would be a simple way to improve the snapping potential of the iPhone 14.

That’s not the only way to make photos better, of course.

Apple could use superior lenses, create more powerful image-processing chips, or use computational tricks to improve images.

But Apple makes an effort to improve its cameras each year, and the iPhone 14 should be no different.

Tough titanium

Your iPhone looks and feels premium, but is it enough? Possibly not.

That’s why Dan Ives thinks that Apple is preparing a “titanium alloy and design” for the iPhone 14.

Currently your iPhone is made from aluminium and stainless steel.

Titanium is a very tough material that’s harder to scratch.

It’s lighter than steel without losing toughness.

And although it’s heavier than aluminium, it’s also significantly tougher.

Titanium is also seen as a premium material, which could attract some luxe-loving Apple fans.

Importantly, titanium Apple gadgets aren’t totally unprecedented.

Apple has already uses titanium for some Apple Watch models.

And the Apple Card credit card is also made from titanium.
