Currently there are over half a million vacancies needing management skills across the UK.

The salary range is huge but with average pay touching £40k, it’s worth climbing the career ladder for.

So if you want to manage your next step up, here’s all you need to know from Sun Jobs.

What skills will I need?

There are seven key skills which all successful managers share.

You’ll need strong interpersonal skills, communication and motivational abilities, organisation and delegation.

Plus forward-planning and strategic thinking along with problem solving and decision-making, commercial awareness and increasingly, mentoring.

Work on your skillset and add value to your team.

Volunteer for high-visibility projects and build your network both inside and outside of your company.

Offer to mentor more junior staff and reverse mentor those senior  to you.

All of these will help prep you for your first management role.

Will I need any special qualifications?

This will depend on the industry you are in.

Some sectors will demand specific qualifications whereas others are more flexible.

Whatever management role you want, studying for recognised management qualifications can only enhance your career.
