Having experience in both worlds, I have a deep appreciation for what each has to offer. As an employee in the corporate world you have a complete understanding of where the company needs to go and how to get there and be successful. Policies, strategies and layers of management and organizational resources protect you from unforeseen obstacles – the way an icebreaker can clear the way for other ships to follow. The con is that the ship’s destination is already set, it is unable to move quickly, and possibly will not be able to take advantage of the opportunities that more nimble players can.

Startups are far more maneuverable, disruptive, and efficient – more like a speedboat – it can follow the larger icebreaker, but also zigzag across the water and explore new channels. If the course of events move one way, a start-up can quickly move to another. I’m very excited to be a part of a company like BitGo that is innovating in the emerging market of digital assets (cryptocurrency and blockchain technology). It is an opportunity to build something new and lasting.

My time at larger corporations allowed me to learn how a nimble startup can disrupt. Ultimately, the goal is to make the startup the industry leader. An additional perk is that I have the opportunity to work with the best talent in the technology industry. Engineers and security managers that are passionate and committed to BitGo’s vision of building a safe and secure infrastructure for digital assets.
