KEEPING kids entertained in the school holidays can be tricky, and costly, for parents.

But by raiding your cupboards, you can create some fun Easter crafts, with hardly any spend.

Parenting and early-years specialist Kirsty Ketley shares a few ideas to keep little ones happy . . .

SALTDOUGH DECORATIONS: These are Easter decorations kids will love to make.

You just need some Easter-shaped cookie cutters (£5, Amazon).

Mix 250g of flour and 125g of salt, then gradually add 125ml of water to form a ball of dough.

Roll out and use the cookie cutters to get as many shapes out of the dough as possible.

Then use a straw to pierce a hole in the top of each one.

Bake on a lined tray for three hours in a preheated oven at 80C.

Once cooled, paint them and use coloured string or ribbon to hang.

Kirsty says: “You can take a walk in the woods to find sticks to pop in a vase and hang the decorations off them.

“This makes a gorgeous table centre.”

PLAYDOUGH: All kids love this and you can easily make your own.

Simply mix 500g of plain flour, 125g of salt and two tablespoons each of cream of tartar and vegetable oil in a large bowl.

Add a few drops of food colouring.

Then, a bit at a time, add 300ml of hot water. Keep stirring until it comes together as a sticky dough.

Once cool, knead to get rid of stickiness. If the mixture is too wet, add flour. Or add water if dry.

EASTER CARDS: Use old spuds to create Easter cards.

Cut potatoes in half lengthways and use a knife to carefully carve a design into the potato — an egg or bunny ears are relatively easy.

Then let kids press the potato into paint and print on to card. Try adding glitter to the paint, too.
