SPOTIFY has unleashed a new major update designed to change the way its users listen to music.

The streaming giant has revamped the way you listen to songs and podcasts on desktops – giving a major makeover to its homepage.

Spotify has redesigned the “Your Library” and “Now Playing” interfaces to make it easier to curate, explore and listen to new music.

From now on, the app’s homepage will be sorted into three columns that can be resized to take up more or less of the screen.

“We’re introducing a three-column design to make full use of your screen and give you unprecedented control,” Spotify announced.

You can also move and pin the playlists in Library and drag and drop songs straight into them.

“We’re keeping the main content area unchanged, so it will still be your central hub to browse, discover, and find recommended songs and podcasts,” they added to soothe any anxieties users may have.

The update also allows you to directly search for playlists through your usual music and podcasts feeds, including your own, instead of wading through Spotify’s entire collection.

And, music listeners can even pin your favourite songs to the screen.

The company said: “Explore your entire collection with search, filters and quickly jump back into favourites by pinning them for easy access.

“The new desktop experience is the best way to explore, listen and curate music and podcasts on a computer or web browser.”

They added: “You can even find more information about the song and artist here, as well as information on tour dates and merch — making it easier to connect with your favourite artists and discover more about them.

“For select podcasts, you can even follow transcripts as you listen.”

What seems to be missing is the “Friends Activity” feed – but it can still be accessed through tapping the “friends” icon next to your profile picture in the top-right corner.

The new desktop launch comes only months after the streaming service launched its Niche Mixes maker tool.

This tool creates personalised mixes to the way you feel or anything you couple possibly want to listen.

It is updated on a daily basis, but you can also search for almost anything that might suit your mood.

Spotify said: “If you’re looking to get super specific, search for an activity, vibe, or aesthetic that describes the moment you’re in, and then add the word “mix” at the end.

“Don’t be shy. Get creative. The more Mixes you search for, the more music you can discover.”
