Former speed skater and current Olympics minister Seiko Hashimoto succeeds Yorshiro Mori, who said women ‘talked too much’ in meetings

Japan’s Olympics minister, Seiko Hashimoto, has been named head of the Tokyo 2020 organising committee, five months before the delayed Games are due to open.

Hashimoto, who has represented Japan at seven Olympics as a speed skater and track cyclist, replaces Yoshiro Mori, a former Japanese prime minister who resigned last week over derogatory remarks he had made about women.
