PRICE hikes for our web, TV and phones should be broad-banned.

Virgin Media is just the latest company to announce increases in the cost of its services, which could add £54 a year to customers’ bills.

While Covid means we have never needed web access more, there are ways to trim those media bills.

HAGGLE IT OUT: If you have discovered your bill is going up, get on the phone, have a chat and see what your service provider can do for you. Loyal customers are very important.

CASH IN: If you are coming to the end of your contract anyway, check out the deals from other providers and sign up via topcashback.co.uk or quidco.com.

You can earn up to £125 in cashback. I’ve done this before and it covered at least two months’ services for me.

FREE FLIP: If a big monthly media bill is worrying you because you have added on TV channels, it is worth considering a Freesat box — if your television does not already have such a service built in.

For a one-off spend of as little as £49 at Currys, you can get one of the boxes which provides extra channels without a subscription service. It could save you around £485 a year alone.

EXTRA, EXTRA: Look for new internet deals that come with extra treats. Internet service provider Plusnet is currently offering broadband deals from £22.99 per month for 18 months, with a £70 Mastercard shopping reward card.

It can be spent online and in most high street stores that display the Mastercard symbol. That’ll help after Christmas.
