iPhone users are furious with Apple’s latest ‘woke‘ update, which adds pronouns to contacts.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Apple sparked outrage by sharing a guide showing how to add They/Them pronouns.
The update, which is part of iOS 17, adds a dedicated field for pronouns in the Contacts app.
Social media has erupted with outrage, calling the feature ‘unnecessary’ and a ‘waste of an update’.
Some commenters complained that Apple was becoming woke, with one writing that ‘Steve Jobs would die again if he saw this.’

In the post shared on X, Apple Support’s official account wrote: ‘In iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, you can now add pronouns in Contacts. Here’s how.’
Apple then shared a step-by-step guide, including an example adding They/Them pronouns to a contact’s information.
Commenters on X were outraged by the post, branding the feature as excessively woke.
‘Apple woke, ya love to see it’, one commenter joked, while another wrote: ‘Too “woke” Apple far to “woke”‘.

Some commenters went even further, saying they would not accept calls from anyone using the new feature.
One commenter wrote: ‘As soon as I see someone list their pronouns in their bio, its a no from me.’
Meanwhile, another added that the feature ‘makes it easy to decide who to decline calls from to be honest.’
However, there appeared to be some confusion over this point, as the update allows users to add pronouns to other peoples’ contacts rather than their own.
There is an option for users to add pronouns to their own contact cards, but sharing this information is turned off by default.
This means that a caller’s pronouns would only be displayed if the user had chosen to add these.
Some commenters went further, claiming that they would not answer phone calls from anyone who had pronouns in their contact information
Yet, according to many commenters on X, this change was the last straw and they are now considering moving away from Apple products.
‘Why is Apple pushing this **** we need to get rid of Apple. I have no friends with pronouns’, wrote one furious social media user.
Another even joked: ‘Who wants to buy my iPhone 14?’
This isn’t the first time that Apple has caused an uproar for including woke features in its updates.
On X, some former Apple fans even went as far as to say they were now considering getting rid of their iPhones over the change to the Contact app
Last year, users were left fuming after the company added a ‘clean energy charging’ option that slows down charging when sustainable energy is unavailable.
The feature came as part of a series of updates to Apple’s Contacts app.
The biggest change was the creation of the NameDrop feature, which added the ability to quickly share contact information with other iPhone users.
If the user chooses, they can add their pronouns to their contact card and choose to share it with others.
The addition of the pronoun function is also intended to improve the function of bilingual apps.
Users can choose to add their pronouns in multiple languages to ensure that apps will use the correct grammar when displaying other languages.
