HEINEKEN is swapping pints for phones launching its very own no-thrills mobile phone.

The beloved beer maker has come up with a nostalgia-tripping flip phone that’s deliberately missing two crucial features – notably there are no apps.

Secondly, it can’t even connect to the internet.

In fact, the handset is so basic it’s been aptly named The Boring Phone.

The stripped back idea is designed to encourage people to enjoy better real-life connections on nights out by disconnecting.

Heineken is releasing the limited run device in collaboration with Bodega and HMD, the company behind Nokia phones.

And the handset appears to be real too – according to The Verge it won’t go on general sale.

Instead just 5,000 units will be available as part of special giveaways.

“In creating The Boring Phone we have gone back to basics, we have dialled down the tech to help people truly connect over a beer, without any distraction from the constant buzzing and dings,” said Nabil Nasser, Global Head of Heineken.

The gadget sports a noughties-inspired transparent casing and holographic stickers draw.

On the inside there’s a tiny 2.8-inch display and a 1.77-inch one outside.

Despite having no apps, it does have a basic camera.

Battery Tip: The ‘100% myth’ that’s killing your battery

The phone has a week of standby time and up to 20 hours of talk time.

It comes as research commissioned by Heineken found that 90 per cent of Gen Z and Millennials in the UK and US confessed to doom scrolling while out socialising with mates.

The average person said they checked their phone seven times each night out.

When it comes to the biggest distractions, two-thirds admit to browsing social media.

An app that makes your smartphone boring will also be launched in June so those who don’t manage to get their hands on a physical device can get a flavour of the Boring Phone experience.
