A MAJOR supermarket chain is making a change to its “amazing” meal deal for families.

Asda is extending its “Kids Eat for £1” meal deal to run all year round instead of just during the school holidays.

Asda has extended its ‘Kid’s eat for £1’ meal deal to run all year round

The deal was first launched in June 2022 to help struggling families feed their kids over the school holidays.

Since then it has served over 3million hot meals across its cafes up and down the country, peaking at over 40,000 a week during the school holidays.

Last year the retailer changed up the menu options and included some healthier choices and vegan meals.

The offer applies to kids under 16 and is available in all of its 205 cafes.

One shopper recently posted on Facebook to say that she was “shocked” when she took her kids to the local Asda and her bill was less than she expected.

The post read: “I got the girls an all-day breakfast EACH with a drink and was confused when the total was only £2.

“When I asked the lady she told me kids eat for £1, even without an adult buying a meal, so I am sharing this as it may help someone out.”

Another person commented: “That’s a steal!”

While someone else wrote: “That’s amazing, thank you for sharing.”

The kids’ menu has a number of hot meal options including dishes such as penne pasta with meatballs, and a vegan hidden veg pasta meal.

The menu also includes traditional favourites such as fish fingers, chicken nuggets and an all-day breakfast.

Kids can also swap out the chips for a salad or peas, and each meal comes with a free piece of fruit.

As an alternative to a hot meal, there is a £1 cold pick-and-mix selection that includes a sandwich, drink and piece of fruit.

It also includes new treats such as a jelly pot with whole fruit pieces or a jelly squeeze pouch as an alternative to a packet of crisps.

Kris Comerford, Asda’s chief commercial officer, said: “We know that families are preparing for the Easter school holidays and for many households, this can put additional strain on already tight budgets.

Shopping discounts – How to make savings and find the best bargains

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to extend this offer all year round and hope that it will support many more families in the coming weeks.”

Asda is not the only supermarket that is trying to help out families who may be struggling with living costs.

Just this week Morrisons revealed it is working alongside Warburtons and giving away thousands of free crumpets in all its stores.

Morrisons customers can get free toasted crumpets with butter and jam with one easy trick.

Free crumpets are on offer to anyone who “Asks for Ellen.” with no questions asked.

The offer will be available across all 397 Morrisons cafes, from March, 25, to April 14, coinciding with the Easter holidays.

Morrisons also has a kids eat free deal in its cafes when purchasing an adult meal with a value of £4.50 or over.

The offer is limited to one free meal from the kid’s menu with any one adult meal and excludes all cafe specials.

The kid’s meal includes a piece of fruit and Tropicana kid’s orange or apple drink or a bottle of water.

You can find more details of the offer on the Morrisons website.

What about other supermarkets?

As the cost of living continues to rise many supermarkets have been coming up with new initiatives to help out struggling shoppers.

Sainsbury’s launched a “Feed your family for a fiver” campaign.

On the Sainsbury’s website, you can access cheap recipes that will feed a family a family of four for under £5.

Meanwhile, Morrisons was praised by customers earlier in the year when it made a huge change at all stores that was a “big deal” for exhausted customers.

The retailer, which runs almost 500 shops, has put in seating areas in its branches for “anyone needing a break mid-shop.”

Free cash schemes if you’re struggling

Many of us are still struggling with the high cost of living – but there’s help you can get.

New or expectant parents can get up to £442 a year to spend on food through Healthy Start scheme.

Some new parents can get £500 via the  Sure Start Maternity Grant. The money is designed to help you cover the costs of having a child.

Councils also offer support through the welfare assistance schemes, to help cover the costs of essentials, from buying new furniture to food vouchers.

The amount you can get varies but an investigation by The Sun found that hard-up Brits can apply for help worth up to £1,000.

Discretionary Housing Payment is a pot of money handed out by councils to those struggling to keep a roof over their heads.

A scheme is available for those who find themselves unable to cover housing costs, though the exact amount varies as each local authority dishes out the cash on a case-by-case basis.

Many energy forms offer grants to help cash-tight customers. The exact amount varies depending on your supplier and you circumstances, but could be as much a £2,000.
